Meet Tab Winborne

Founder & CEO

Tab Winborne’s passion for architecture and construction began at an early age, when he and his family built their dream home by hand in Carova Beach, NC. Working alongside his parents and brother, Tab gained firsthand experience that sparked a lifelong love for design and construction.  He was fortunate to have two strong role models who helped shape his path early on: his uncle, an architect, and a neighbor, who was a local builder. Tab began working with them at just 11 years old, and by his teens, he was already framing and trimming out custom homes for builders in the area. That early hands-on experience laid the foundation for a lifelong career in the construction industry.

Tab went on to study at Old Dominion University, where he earned degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering. After graduating ODU, he had the opportunity to work on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel parallel expansion—one of the largest infrastructure projects in the world at the time.

Fun Fact: Both Tab and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel parallel expansion project were featured on The History Channel!

In 2004, Tab founded Tab Winborne Corporation with a vision of building quality homes for the community he loves. Since then, he has completed more than 200 major projects throughout the OBX 4x4 area, earning a reputation for craftsmanship, dependability, and hometown pride. Beyond his residential work, Tab contributed to the construction of Carova Beach Park and remains deeply involved in community initiatives across the region—continuing to build not just homes, but the future of the Outer Banks.

Outside of work, Tab is all about FAMILY! He met his wife, Leigh, during his time at ODU, who he married in 2001. They have two amazing children: Ashley, a recent UVA graduate, and Austin, a junior at Virginia Tech. Both kids are actively involved in the family business, managing the TWC Home Caretaker program. Additionally, their canine companion Archie is a Boykin Spaniel who absolutely loves the beach! Archie can always be found hanging around job sites and is pictured here with Tab on one of their morning boat commutes!

Another Fun Fact: Tab And Archie's story was covered in a local magazine The North Beach Sun!

As with most southern families, The Winborne’s are avid fans of the outdoors enjoying fishing, hunting, and of course entertaining on their screened porch with close friends and family. Additionally, during the off season the family loves to explore the world and experience different cultures! From trying new foods to sailing, they are always looking for a new adventure as a family.
